Acme Markets has announced an agreement to purchase 76 A&P-owned stores across the east coast.

Acme Markets has announced an agreement to purchase 76 A&P-owned stores across the east coast, including the Superfresh location in Wynnewood.

The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, filed for bankruptcy on July 19. It had been the second Chapter 11 filing for the 156-year-old company in the past five years.

Acme’s offer to purchase the Wynnewood Superfresh, located at 250 E. Lancaster Avenue, hinges on the customary legal and bankruptcy court approvals. According to Acme Markets, which is based in Malvern, A&P has asked the court for an order requiring other bidders to submit their offers by Sept. 11 of this year, with an expectation that approval for the sale would be approved by Oct. 15.
