Bollywood Dance Party and More This Friday

Happy Friday, Ardmore. Here's a look ahead at the day.

TGIF. Obnoxious, as far as acronyms go, but doubtless true. Here's a look at what's ahead today, Friday, July 26, 2013.

  • Fun: Get out to Ardmore to enjoy the first Last Friday. As a neat, and welcome, play on the First Friday franchise, the Ardmore Initiative and Viva Video are starting a monthly Last Friday celebration that will be held on—and I hope you're ahead of us on this one—the final Friday of each month. The initial offering is a Bollywood Dance Party at Viva Video, located at 16 W. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. Owner Miguel Gomez is inviting dancers and cinephiles, or, really, people who are neither, to come by the shop at 8:30 p.m. to dance along to a montage of classic dance numbers, culled from Indian cinema. "It's basically one hours and 15 minutes of my favorite dance sequences rom Bollywood flicks," Gomez said, adding that he spliced together about 15 individual dance numbers from six or seven movies. "It's just the dance sequences, though I'll probably pause it to explain what each film is about," Gomez added.
  • Traffic: Check out the PennDOT traffic cameras to get a beat on how traffic looks this morning. A prediction: not great.
  • Weather: The forecast calls for sunshine with highs in the mid 80s. Temperatures should dip into the mid 60s when the sun goes down, with nary a rain cloud in sight.
  • History: Per the History Chanel, on this day in 1775, the Second Continental Congress formally established the U.S. Postal Service. (And, on this day in 2014, we'll probably disband it. Kidding, maybe.) The first postmaster general? Benjamin Franklin.
