Bryn Mawr Hospital Postpones Decision to Move Cardio Surgeries

Leaders of Main Line Health and Bryn Mawr Hospital told Radnor Township officials that they have decided to postpone their decision to move cardiothoracic surgeries to Lankenau Hospital.

Radnor Board of Health chair Herbert Hazan said Monday that John J. Lynch III, president and CEO of Main Line Health, and Andrea Gilbert, president of Bryn Mawr Hospital, informed Radnor manager Bob Zienkowski of the postponement in a letter.

The decision will be moved to next summer at the earliest, Hazan said. He said a meeting between township officials, including himself, and Main Line Health representatives would be taking place soon. Another Board of Health member suggested holding a public meeting for Radnor residents to air their concerns.

The Board of Commissioners is also asking the Board of Health look into the issues of the hospital’s proposal to close its cardiothoracic unit and report back with recommendations.

At the May 20 meeting of the Board of Health some Bryn Mawr hospital doctors told the board that they oppose a move of the cardiac surgery from the hospital.
