Lower Merion Woman Making And Donating Masks: Local Heroes
Taryn Wortman has been making masks and donating them to facilities such as CHOP to give out to children and their families when they visit.

LOWER MERION, PA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Lara Borowsky who nominated Taryn Wortman of Lower Merion.

What does the nominee do for work?:
Mask Maker
Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
At the start of the pandemic, Taryn began making and donating masks to essential workers in large quantities when she realized the need for more PPE. She also made them for friends and family. Her efforts were done simply via her Facebook page until it grew rapidly, so she started the group Main Line Face Masks. She still has been donating huge quantities of masks to facilities like CHOP to give out to children and their families when they visit. She recently donated over 50 masks to a facility for foster children. She created masks for our former preschool and synagogue prior to their reopening in September. She is always quick to respond to any need for mask donations, regardless of where they come from. Whenever I come across ANYONE searching for masks for children and adults alike, I immediately send them her way... and I’m not the only one. Even while working, and being a full-time Mom to her young son, there have been countless days and nights where she has forgone sleep and documented her sewing efforts since she knew they were needed. She’s an unbelievable resource for the Lower Merion community at large. I am beyond proud to be able to call her a friend.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
She’s absolutely selfless. Her dedication to helping anyone in need is completely unparalleled. She’s the sweetest, kindest, and most giving person I’ve ever known. Her heart is always, ALWAYS in the right place. I swear, the woman would do anything she could for an absolute stranger if they were in need. But most amazingly, she never, ever asks for anything in return.
Thank you for all you do, Taryn!
