Performer Profile: The Band's Jim Weider And SNL's GE Smith
"Master of the Telecaster" brings together two legendary guitarists for a night of blues, roots rock, and more guitar master in Ardmore.
ARDMORE, PA — Live music is back in Ardmore, with the Ardmore Music Hall hosting numerous socially-distanced and limited capacity shows.
This Friday, Jim Weider of The Band and G.E. Smith of Saturday Night Live, Hall and Oates, and the Roger Waters Band are playing the venue with their show "Masters of the Telecaster."

1) "Masters of the Telecaster" is a revue show that focuses on the classic blues, roots, and rock and roll musicians knows for playing the famous twangy Fender Telecaster guitar, such as Roy Buchanan, Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Stevie Winwood, Bo Diddley the Rolling Stones, and more
2) Smith — a Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania native — served as the leader of Saturday Night Live's house band and lead guitarist from 1985 to 1995. He also played lead guitar for numerous acts, including Philly's own Hall and Oates, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Tracy Chapman, and many more.

3) Smith was gifted his first Fender Telecaster for his 11th birthday.
4) Weider joined The Band in 1985, replacing original guitarist Robbie Robertson. He also played with the Levon Helm Band from 2009 to 2012. He later formed The Weight Band with fellow The Band member Randy Ciarlante, which released and album in 2018.
5) The Fender Telecaster is one of the most ubiquitous instruments in rock and roll. It was developed by Leo Fender and made available in 1950 but was called the "Broadcaster." The name "Telecaster" was codified in 1951. Notable blues-based Telecaster players include George Harrison, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page, Merle Hagard, Albert Lee, and Keith Urban, among many others.
