Storm Gave Open Organizers a Scare

The 11th hole at Merion Golf Club nearly flooded, according to a report.

Tropical Storm Andrea didn't just disrupt First Friday Main Line—it also complicated plans for this week's 2013 U.S. Open.

According to ESPN.com, the storm left groundskeepers rushing to get the course back in peak condition in time for play. But while Merion Golf Club took 3 1/2 inches of rain, the website is reporting that, come Saturday morning, tournament personnel found the course withstood the downfall surprisingly well.

"The green was fine, and the fairway had a couple of very small areas of debris, but otherwise very playable," USGA communications director Joe Goode told a reporter.
