Bryn Mawr College to Host Controversial Workshop Canceled by Villanova

Haverford and Muhlenberg colleges will collaborate with Bryn Mawr, according to performance artist Tim Miller.

will be hosting a weeklong performance workshop originally to be held at , according to the performance artist.

Tim Miller, a gay performance artist, was told of Villanova's decision to cancel the workshop on Sunday, he told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Villanova President Rev. Peter M. Donohue told the Inquirer he canceled the workshop because of subject matter and not because of Miller's sexual orientation.

Miller responded to that view on his Facebook page, calling it a "grotesque characterization of [his] performance work."

Bryn Mawr College, in collaboration with Haverford and Muhlenberg colleges, will host the performance workshop the week of April 16 to 20, with a student performance on April 20, Miller wrote in an email. Villanova students will also be invited to participate, he wrote.

Miller will be performing at the InterAct Theatre in Philadelphia the week prior.

"This has all just happened and exploded in the international press the last couple of days so there hasnt been much chance to connect with Bryn Mawr [or] Haverford students," Miller wrote.

He added he has done a number of workshops and performances at Muhlenberg College and that they are looking forward to the workshop at Bryn Mawr.

Miller wrote he has been impressed with Bryn Mawr theater professor Mark Lord, "who immediately leapt in to help."
