A lot of things have been a bit different in Lower Merion School District since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the many educational aspects that has been sorely missed by students, staff and families are the scores of musical performances that occur over the course of a normal year throughout all ten schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

LMSD Elementary Orchestra Directors Marybeth McCarrick and Leslie Burnick knew they did not want all of their students' practice and progress to go unrecognized, nor did they want students to miss out on the wonderful experience of being able to perform for an audience, albeit an atypical (virtual) one.

With this in mind, Burnick and McCarrick recently helped students in the Intermediate Elementary Orchestra put on a Virtual Concert to highlight and celebrate the hard work of their young musicians. More than 130 students from throughout all six elementary schools, LMSD@Home and the Lower Merion Virtual Academy collaborated with their teachers to record and submit performances of the song Cripple Creek arranged by Edmund Siennick. Once all of the videos were collected, Burnick and McCarrick enlisted the help of Zeswitz Music and Skynine Video Productions to coalesce all of the videos into one giant, mellifluous, virtual video performance.
