​ Harcum Men’s Basketball Looks to Notch 14th 20-win Season

-- Women's Team Set on Returning to Nationals in 2019 --


Bryn Mawr, PA – November 12, 2018 – The Harcum Bears have stepped out in the young 2018-19 season undefeated to date. Men’s Basketball is 3-0 and Women’s Basketball stands at 4-0. Each has a full slate of games through February of 2019.

The Bears who play D-I in the NJCAA have six men and two starters returning. They recruited nine new players for this season. Last year, they finished 22-9. The Bears overall record is 328-85, giving the program an all-time winning percentage of .794. They have been coached since the inception of the program by Head Coach Drew Kelly, who notched his 300th win in 2017. Harcum has finished in the top ten nationally four times (twice in the top five).

Harcum Men’s Basketball alumni have transferred to some of the top NCAA Division I programs in the nation. Harcum grads have been found on rosters in the Big East, ACC, WAC, Big South, MEAC, Mid-American Conference, Metro Athletic Conference, and Ohio Valley Conference.

Upcoming highlights for the men include hosting the Harcum Classic at Our Mother of Good Counsel Gymnasium, Bryn Mawr, from November 15-17. During that tournament the Bears take on Eastern Florida, currently standing at #5 in the NJCAA D-I rankings.

The Women’s Team who plays D-II in the NJCAA has five returning players. They picked up three transfers and four recruits for seven new players on the roster.

This year marks the first season for Head Coach Lexie Gerson, who was an assistant last year. Gerson was a four-year starter at the University of Virginia and led the ACC and the nation in steals. She played professionally in Israel in the top division for two years. She hopes to take the Women's team, to their fifth consecutive 20-win season and to realize a second District XIX championship and a return to Nationals in March 2019.
