Sen. Leach Questions Rosh Hashanah Legislative Session

State senator says lawmakers shouldn't meet on Jewish holiday

The oft-outspoken State Sen. Daylin Leach has spoken out against the state legislature’s plans to go into session on the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is Sept. 14 this year. And Leach commented on the conflict on Twitter:

Leach, a Democrat who represents parts of Delaware and Montgomery Counties, said in a subsequent interview that while he himself is “not as religious” as some other Jews, some legislators and staffers would likely need to miss the session to worship on that day, as well as Yom Kippur, the following week, on which the legislature is also scheduled to be in session.
