1 Arrested After 6 Fires Set In Philadelphia

Police said several fires were set at several locations near Broad and Lehigh Wednesday and that they arrested one person for arson.

PHILADELPHIA — A person has been arrested on suspicion of arson in Philadelphia after six fires were set on Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue Wednesday morning, police said.

According to police, officers were called to the area at about 8:30 a.m. for a report of multiple fires.

Police found six fires were lit at various locations — including physical structures, a trash dumpster, and various piles of waste — in the immediate area.

A suspect was identified and later arrested at about 10 a.m. by Philadelphia and SEPTA Police at 69th Street SEPTA Terminal, 6901 Market St.

"We are relieved that there were no physical injuries as a result of these reckless and criminal acts," Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. "And we are privileged to have collaborated with our partners at the Philadelphia Fire Department, ATF, SEPTA, and Upper Darby PD in safely and swiftly apprehending a dangerous offender."
