Birding Expert Kicks Off Friends Of The Wissahickon​ Talk Series

Ruth Pfeffer, who is the owner of Birding with Ruth and creator of the birding program at Morris Arboretum, recently led the talk.

PHILADELPHIA – The Friends of the Wissahickon kicked off their Spring Valley Talks series with a birding expert recently.

More than 100 bird lovers recently flocked to hear birding expert Ruth Pfeffer at the first of two Spring Valley Talks, sponsored by Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Pfeffer, owner of Birding with Ruth and creator of the birding program at Morris Arboretum, discussed the many bird varieties that live or nest in, or migrate through Wissahickon Valley Park, especially warblers and other songbirds that are returning from their southern winter homes.

The FOW will host the next talk Tuesday, May 15.

The speaker will be Maya Van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper and a long-time environmental activist.

Van Rossum will discuss her new best-selling book by the same name and how to become more engaged with environmental and water advocacy to support the Wissahickon watershed in her talk titled "The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment."

Valley Talks take place at 6 p.m. at the Valley Green Inn and are sponsored by Chestnut Hill Hospital.

They are free for FOW members and $10 for non-members.
