Heavy Rains, Winds Pound the Region

Weather forecasters warn of inclement weather throughout the day.

Heavy rains and wind swept through the region this morning, and the barrage of inclement weather is expected to last through much of the day.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has warned of strong winds and precipitation, with a flood advisory lasting through much of the morning and early afternoon, and a strong wind advisory lasting through 4 p.m.

The advisories have been issued throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and the outlying region.

The precipitation is moving from west to east, and much of the storm is expected to leave the region by later today.

As always, the National Weather Service urges motorists to steer clear of standing water, since pools on the roadway can often been deeper than they initially appear.

Drivers in Northwest Philadelphia are always advised to be on the lookout for flooded roadways, since streams running through the region can overflow onto the roadways.

As of 10 a.m., the National Weather Service already estimated about 2 inches of rain had fallen on the region.
