Delaware Valley Friends School in Paoli, Pennsylvania, welcomes James A. Allison to its Board of Trustees. Jim is general counsel for Murray, Devine & Company, a Philadelphia financial valuation advisory firm, and also president of Home Health Investments LLC, the parent entity of a group of companies that provide oxygen and home medical equipment and services for over 9,000 veterans throughout the country. Previously, he was an associate and then partner with law firms in Munich, Washington, DC and Philadelphia, ending his career as a practicing law firm attorney with Duane Morris LLP. Jim’s primary specialization was corporate reorganization and bankruptcy with sub-specialties that included general outside counsel representations, complex corporate restructurings and internal fraud investigations in the for-profit and not-for-profit contexts. Jim shares his expertise as a member of a number of not-for-profit boards, including: Silver Springs Martin Luther School -- a social services agency that provides residential treatment, education, counseling and related services to children who have been the victims of severe trauma, and the Seagle Music Colony -- a prestigious summer vocal training program for aspiring opera professionals. Jim was introduced to the Society of Friends through his son Charlie’s attendance first at Stratford Friends School and then DVFS. Charlie graduated from DVFS in 2005. Jim says that he is motivated to serve DVFS because of the gratitude he feels for the education and values that DVFS introduced and provided to his son and, derivatively through Charlie, to him. When asked what he believes the lasting value of a DVFS education is, Jim replied, “I believe that DVFS’s unique education and spirit of inclusiveness, consensus and intentional living helped Charlie to avoid falling all the way into an abyss of bitterness and despair and emerge into adulthood with his true character intact.” He reports, “Charlie is now an author living in West Philadelphia with seemingly unshakeable professional aspirations and a wide and varied circle of friends. The happiness he brings to people through his professional and personal life is just one example of the lasting value that DVFS provides to the broader community.” As a new member of the DVFS Board, Jim is looking forward to reacquainting himself with the school and hopes to serve on the Board’s Finance Committee.

Delaware Valley Friends is a coed Quaker, college preparatory school for bright students, grades 3-12, who struggle with reading, writing, math, memory, processing, ADHD, executive functioning, and other learning differences. DVFS teachers are education specialists with unparalleled experience and expertise drawing out students’ unique strengths while tackling their academic challenges.
