Local Chapter Of National Black Police Association Endorses Larry Krasner For DA

Krasner emerged victorious in the May primary election. Now he has the backing of the Guardian Civic League.

PHILADELPHIA – Larry Krasner, Philadelphia's Democratic candidate in the District Attorney race, earned a new endorsement from the local chapter of the National Black Police Association.

The Guardian Civic League of Philadelphia has come out in favor of Krasner as Philadelphia's top prosecutor.

The league represents more than 2,000 active and retried Philadelphia police officers.

"We have always been on the side of the fight for our civil rights," Rochelle Bilal, president of the League, said in s press release. "The Political Action Committee of the Guardian Civic League formally endorses and supports Democratic nominee Larry Krasner for District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia."

The Guardian Civic League of Philadelphia was founded in 1956 to bring together members of the Philadelphia Police Department who were interested in civic betterment through close cooperation between police and the communities they serve.

"The Guardian Civic League has not just stood up for the rights of African Americans and people of color, it has stood up for the rights of all people," Krasner said in a statement. "I look forward to working closely with the Guardian Civic League and with the rank and file of police. I am a huge fan of good police officers and I will stand by them. Like good police officers, the Guardian Civic League stands for equality and it stands for what’s right, and that is what I stand for as well."

Krasner earned musician John Legend's endorsement ahead of the May primary, which he won with 38.19 percent of the vote.

Krasner, a longtime civil rights attorney, earned 38.19 percent of the vote against his fellow Democrats in the DA race.

Beth Grossman, the sole Republican in the DA race, earned 99.54 percent of the vote, so she and Krasner will square off come November.
