Manayunk's Steampunk Opera Is Now Playing

The Dolls of New Albion opened Thursday at Manayunk's Venice Island Performing Arts Center

The Manayunk Theater Company is now presenting a “Steampunk Opera.” Created by Paul Shapera, The Dolls of New Albion opened Thursday and will run through the 12th at Manayunk’s Venice Island Performing Arts Center.

The Dolls of New Albion, according to its official Facebook page, “deals with themes of romance and the soul while surrounded by a world of machines and a decaying city. It also asks the question: Can you resurrect a person’s soul and place it in a machine so it can live on?”

In addition, the author of the work, Shapera, will be appearing at the Sept. 5 performance, followed by a “talk back.”
