Philly International Adding New Safety Measures At Arrivals Area
Arrivals Road at Philadelphia International Airport is getting new safety features to keep those arriving from travels out of harm's way.

PHILADELPHIA — New features are being added to the arrival area of the Philadelphia International Airport to boost travelers' safety.
Along Arrivals Road, the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is installing pedestrian safety systems for crosswalks, improving pedestrian’s curb ramps, and replacing temporary bus shelters on Arrivals Road, North Commercial Road, and South Commercial Road.

- Installation of in-road warning light systems at 21 crosswalks along Arrivals Road;
- installation of 12 flashing pedestrian crossing signs on South Commercial Road;
- renewal of pedestrian curb ramps to meet current PennDOT and ADA requirements;
- and replacement of temporary bus shelters along South Commercial Road with new permanent structures.
Construction on Arrivals Road, North and South Commercial Roads will continue through Dec. 20.
There will be no roadway construction Thanksgiving week, Nov. 26 through Dec. 3.

During construction, drivers using these roads should anticipate lane closures and allow for extra time when traveling through PHL.
"These enhancements will create safer conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike," said Api Appulingam, PHL Deputy Director of Aviation, Capital Development. "We know that construction and lane closures at the airport are not easy to deal with, especially during busy travel times. We thank our guests for their patience as we work to make an even better PHL."
