Philly Public, Catholic Schools Closing For Super Bowl Parade

Catholic schools in the suburbs will be closed as well, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Monday.

PHILADELPHIA – It's official: no school for kids in Philly and in some suburban schools on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The School District of Philadelphia and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Monday that all schools will be closed Thursday for the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Parade.

The parade is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Broad and Pattison streets in South Philly, making its way up north to the Art Museum.

“The excitement of the Eagles first Super Bowl victory is a once in a lifetime event," Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of The School District of Philadelphia said. "For this reason we have decided to give our students, teachers and their families the chance to witness history. All School District of Philadelphia schools and administrative offices will be closed this Thursday, February 8, 2018."

The Archdiocese said all its schools, including schools in the suburbs, will close Thursday to allow celebrations, due to expected street closures, and high public transportation demands.

"The Archdiocese of Philadelphia continues to extend its prayerful congratulations and best wishes to the Philadelphia Eagles on their historic victory in Super Bowl LII," the Archdiocese said in its announcement. "Thank you for bringing the Lombardi Trophy home to the City of Brotherly Love!"
