Trump's Philly Visit: All You Need To Know About Traffic, Protests, SEPTA, And More

President Donald Trump's visit to the city has triggered action from Philly, White House, and SEPTA officials, as well as protestors.

President Donald Trump is in Center City Philadelphia today for the 2017 GOP retreat and will be speaking to congressional Republicans at noon. Trump's visit has led to road closures, protests, parking restrictions, and transit changes.

The following are closed:

  • 13th Street from Chestnut Street to Market Street
  • Market Street from 11th Street to Juniper Street
  • 12th Street from Chestnut to Arch Street

A large crowd of people at Broad and Walnut streets has affected traffic up to City Hall, the city said on Twitter.

The city announced on Twitter that the on and off ramps from the Interstate 676 Broad Street Exit are closed.

The mayor's office said the closures will begin at 8 a.m. and remain in place until at least 6 p.m.

As of 5:56 p.m., the city announced road closures would be in effect past 6 p.m. The city said it will provide updates on roads reopening.

At about 4:40 p.m., the city announced rolling road closures on Chestnut Street as a demonstration is moving east down Chestnut Street from 18th Street to Loews hotel.

City officials encourage citizens to follow the #PHLroadclosures hashtag on social media to stay updated on any additional road closures or changes in closures due to the retreat.

Parking is not allowed at these streets until the previously mentioned roads reopen this evening:

  • 13th Street from Chestnut to Market Streets
  • Market Street from 11th Street to Juniper Street
  • 12th Street from Chestnut to Arch Street

The Philadelphia Parking Authority and Philadelphia Police Department will be towing vehicles on those streets to the PPA impound lot at 2501 S. Weccacoe Ave. in South Philadelphia, the mayor's office said.

The U.S. Secret Service is limiting pedestrian traffic here:

  • 1100 and 1200 block of Market – both north and south sides
  • 12th Street from Chestnut to Filbert Streets – both east and west sides
  • 13th Street from Chestnut to Market Streets – both east and west sides

The Market-Frankford route for SEPTA has been rerouted to accommodate the president's visit. City officials said the line will bypass the 13th Street station. Both the 11th and 15th street stations are open, officials said.

The following Bus Routes will operate on a temporary detour Thursday, as well: 4, 16, 17, 23, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 45, 48, 62, 78, 124, 125, and MFO. Click the links for each bus route to find out the detour route.

The public is encouraged to follow SEPTA on social media to stay updated on any changes to services due to the president's visit.

Anti-Trump demonstrations are planned in the city and some have gotten underway early Thursday, while some took place Wednesday night.

Protestors have made their way to Sen. Pat Toomey's office where they are railing against his support of the Affordable Care Act repeal.
