CMU Study: Cranberry Traffic Management Passes With Flying Colors

Cranberry's traffic signal management saves $2 million, according to researchers.

Cranberry Township's signal maintenance and sophistication of its timing plans saves local commuters $600,000 a year, according to a post-doctoral study conducted by two Carnegie Mellon University researchers.

For the region as a whole, according to the study, the traffic planning saves $2 million in fuel, wear and environmental costs.

The study concluded that the annual cost of maintaining the traffic signals at an intersection—which it estimated at $3,500—are vastly outweighed by the savings, which it put at $50,000.
