Jr Geologist

Are you mad for minerals, crazy for crystals, frenzied for fossils? You belong among the Jr. Geologists! During an action-packed week designed for the geo-enthusiast, we’ll grow glowing crystals, crackgiant geodes, recreate volcanic eruptions, and unravel the mysteries ofrocks and minerals with the tools of professionals.

We’ll put your skills to the test to identify real rubies and emeralds among fakes, make a cast of a trilobite fossil and even travel back in time to pan gold! Together, we’ll discover more about Pittsburgh’s fascinating prehistoric history and crack local ancient rocks to find fossils that haven’t seen the light of day for millions of years!

Ecosystems Scientist

Duringan epic week of environmental adventures, we’ll explore the world’s biomes: deserts, rainforests, tundra and more! We’ll discover which animals call our area home and which poisonous, edible or medicinal plants might be found in your own backyard! We’ll learn some wilderness survival skills and techniques that an ecosystem scientist might use in the field and we’ll use cool color-changing chemical tests to discover the secrets of soil. Get ready to explore the amazing life forms found in fresh and saltwater, to peer through microscopes, and to devise solutions to challenges like creating an anti-venom for a mock
snakebite!
