DORMONT, PA — The June 12 opening of the Dormont Pool has been pushed back at least a week because of a lifeguard shortage. The borough made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook.

"While our wage increase and enhanced recruitment efforts have seen positive results, additional lifeguards and lifeguard supervisors are still desperately needed," the post stated. "During this delay, we will continue our recruitment efforts and schedule candidates for lifeguard training class next weekend. As always, we appreciate your patience and support during this unprecedented labor shortage national wide."

Borough officials said further adjustments will be made to the schedule including more daily closures if they are are unable to recruit and train more lifeguard and lifeguard supervisors. Other changes may also be possible such as closing certain sections of the pool and limiting capacity.
