Former Hollywood Theater Group Renames & Rebrands

The new Jump Cut Theater group pledges to bring diverse and eclectic movies to various locales throughout the city.

DORMONT, PA - The organization that ran the Hollywood Theater for seven years has renamed itself and rebranded as a group that will bring screenings and events throughout Pittsburgh.

Now known as Jump Cut Theater, “our mission is to help preserve and celebrate the independent neighborhood theater experience, and provide a community space for diverse and innovative arts programming while contributing to the economic and artistic vitality of the greater Pittsburgh region,” the group said in a statement on its Facebook page.

The organization formerly was known as Friends of the Hollywood Theater.

The Hollywood was purchased in February by a theater preservation group that recently moved its headquarters to Pittsburgh from Chicago. The Theatre Historical Society of America bought the theater from Hollywood Partners, LLC. The company is a division of the real estate firm Kelly-Riley-Nells-Barna & Associates, which owned the building for about a decade.

The Jump Cut Theater statement said its goal “is to continue the diverse, innovative programming we crafted over the past seven years, and sustain the wonderful partnerships we developed over that time.”

The organization pledged that popular series such as Noir Night Out will remain, as will annual “Twin Peaks” and “Purple Rain” parties. As opposed to the more mainstream offerings the Hollywood’s new owners are booking, Jump Cut Theater vowed to continue to embrace local and eclectic films.

The group also is involved in preliminary discussions with a Carnegie business owner to open a small theater in the borough’s business district.
