BROOKLINE, PA - Three Brookline church parishes and two in Beechview are combining to form a new parish effective July 1, Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik announced. Resurrection, Our Lady of Loreto and Saint Pius X in Brookline will combine with Saint Catherine of Siena and Saint Pamphilus in Beechview to form St. Teresa of Kolkata.

None of the churches in the merger are closing immediately.

The new parish is among five diocesan church mergers as part of the "On Mission for The Church Alive" program. The other mergers are on the North Side, in the South Hills and in Lawrence and Greene counties.

"These five parish groupings have worked extremely hard since last October to foster relationships and, after consultation in the groupings, were prepared to share with me their desire and readiness to form a new community," Zubik wrote in a weekend letter.
