UPMC Officer From Dormont Could Lose Job Over Protest Comment

The officer appears to made a disparaging remark regarding those protesting Antwon Rose's shooting death.

DORMONT, PA - A UPMC police officer’s job could be in jeopardy after the Dormont resident apparently posted disparaging remarks on Facebook regarding a video of protesters in Downtown Pittsburgh.

A UPMC spokesman told WTAE-TV that the medical conglomerate is investigating the comment from officer David P. Murray’s Facebook account. Referencing those demonstrating against East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld shooting to death 17-year-old Antwon Rose following a traffic stop in june, the remark stated: “We need a runaway semi truck."

The UPMC spokesman said UPMC did not condone such statements, which are grounds for termination.

The comment was unearthed by a Pittsburgh group called Partners in Justice, which has been monitoring social media posts about the shooting death of Rose, 17, an unarmed Woodland Hills High School student. Rose was shot while running away after Rosfeld stopped the vehicle he was in after it had been involved in a drive-by shooting minutes earlier in neary North Braddock.

WTAE’s attempts to reach Murray for comment at his Dormont apartment were unsuccessful.
