10K Pounds Of Food Collected At Haverford Donation Drives

The township is suspending its weekly food drives after collecting thousands of pounds of food for area residents in need.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Member of the public donated thousands of pounds of food in Haverford Township over the past months. And now the food drive has been suspended.

The township launched a weekly food donation drop off site at the CREC in May where residents could donate food items on Wednesday to those in need amid the coronavirus.

According to the township, residents donated more than 10,000 pounds of food since the site opened.

The township said the weekly food drive has been suspended due to the overwhelming support of residents and the start of limited activities resuming this fall.

Officials said anyone who still wants to support neighbors in need should donate items to area food pantries.

The township still has thousands of pounds of items scheduled to be donated.

"On behalf of those in need, we thank you for your support and generosity," the township said in a statement.
