5 Of 6 Coronavirus Metrics Down In Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows signs of hope for Delaware County when it comes to the coronavirus's impact in the county.

The state's latest data shows five of six of the key coronavirus metrics measured in Delaware County have decreased over the past week.

Newly reported cases, the incidence rate per 100,000 people, the positivity rate, average daily coronavirus hospitalizations, and ventilator use have all gone down from May 7 to May 14.

The only metric to increase was the percent of people showing up at hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses, which went up from 0.8 percent to 1.1 percent.

New cases dropped from 95.3 to 66.9.

The positivity rate went down from 5.1 percent to 3.7 percent.

Hospitalizations are at 54.9 Friday, down from 72 last week.

Ventilator use decreased by nearly 50 percent, with 8.1 average patients on ventilators compared to 15.6 the week prior.

As of Friday, Delaware County has 182,525 people who are fully vaccinated for the virus and 81,863 partially vaccinated residents.

To date, the county has had 47,909 positive cases of the virus and 1,424 coronavirus-related deaths.
