All Coronavirus Metrics Rise In Delco Amid Apparent 'Fourth Wave'

The six coronavirus metrics measured by the state have all gone up in Delaware County, signifying an apparent "fourth wave" of the pandemic.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — All six of the coronavirus metrics measured by the state have increased in Delaware County over the past week amid an apparent "fourth wave" of the virus.

According to the state, every metric has increased over the past week.

Newly reported cases jumped from 573 the week ending March 19 to 708 cases the week ending March 26.

As of Monday, the county has identified 41,364 cases.

The county's incidence rate went from 101.1 cases per 100,000 residents to 124.9 cases per 100,000 residents.

The positivity rate in Delaware County went up a bit, as well. Most recently the positivity rate was reported to be 5.9 percent, up from 5.4 percent the week before.

Hospitalizations have gone up, too, from 47.6 average coronavirus-specific hospitalizations to 531. The county has had 1,339 coronavirus deaths as of Monday. Of those deaths, 821 were long term care facility or nursing home residents.

Ventilator use among hospitalized coronavirus patients increased from 2.6 to 3.6 average daily patients on ventilators.

Lastly, the percent of hospital emergency room visits with coronavirus-like illnesses increased from 0.4 percent to 0.9 percent.

As of Tuesday, 73,713 people in Delaware County have been partially vaccinated and 74,734 people have been fully vaccinated in the county.
