Archdiocese Gets $12.5M Credit To Build Senior Housing In Delco

Saint Joseph Place in Collingdale will offer 50 units of affordable housing, as well as on-site support services, for independent seniors.

COLLINGDALE, PA — The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced it was awarded a substantial tax credit allocation that will help it build a new senior housing community in Delaware County.

The archdiocese's Catholic Housing and Community Services said it got a tax credit allocation of $1.25 million for 10 years for a total of $12.5 million by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency for the development of Saint Joseph Place

Saint Joseph Place will be an affordable housing community for independent seniors.

The community will be located in Collingdale and be the first senior housing community developed by Catholic Housing and Community Services outside Philadelphia.

Saint Joseph Place will provide safe and affordable housing for income eligible seniors 62 and older. In addition, the development will also feature a program of on-site supportive services, which will include case management, health services, and recreational activities. Support services will be provided by Catholic Housing and Community Services and its partners.

When completed, Saint Joseph Place will have 50 units of affordable housing on the grounds of Saint Joseph Parish.

The development involves the rehabilitation of the historic former Saint Joseph’s Elementary School and Annex buildings as well as the construction of a new addition to unify the two buildings.

Construction on the $18.5 million development is anticipated to begin in summer of 2021.
