Chatham Park Families Brave Rain for the 20th “Maniac Magee" Run

Event Raised $8,200 for the Norristown Salvation Army

Despite pouring rain, more than 400 students, families, and neighbors gathered at Chatham Park Elementary in Havertown on Saturday morning to run the 20th annual “Maniac Magee,” a two-mile run and one-mile walk. The event raised $8,200 for Norristown’s Salvation Army, which aids homeless families.

The Maniac Magee is named after the award-winning children’s novel authored by Jerry Spinelli, who grew up in Norristown and later raised his six children in the Chatham Park community. The title refers to Jeffery Lionel Magee, nicknamed “Maniac Magee”, a homeless 11-year-old boy who goes "on the run" in search of a place to belong.

Many thanks to all the generous sponsors but especially the race's platinum donors: Adam Mechanical, Cemtech Energy Controls, Curran Physical Therapy, Nolan Painting, ESF Camps, J. Halligan & Sons, John Ryan of Long & Foster, Unique Indoor Comfort and Sam’s Boardwalk Pizza.
