Coronavirus Hospitalizations Up In Delco As New Cases Drop
While cases and the testing positivity rate have decreased in the county, coronavirus specific hospitalizations have increased, data shows.
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Recent coronavirus statistics in Delaware County show mixed trends, with some metrics increasing and other decreasing.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, three of the six key coronavirus metrics have gone down while two others have increased over the past week. One remained static.
Data shows new cases, the positivity rate, and incidence rate have decreased.

New cases went from 1,118 cases the week ending April 2 to 1,083 the week ending April 9. As of Tuesday, the county has seen 44,093 total cases of the coronavirus.
The incidence rate per 100,000 people went down, albeit slightly, from 197.3 to 191.1.

And the positivity rate also saw a decrease, again very slight, from 8.5 percent to 8.1 percent.
But both hospitalizations and ventilator use went up from the week ending April 2 to the week ending April 9.
As for hospitalizations, the average number of people being treated in Delaware County hospitals increased from 57.9 people to 78 people.
And among the 78 average, the state reports an average of 6.3 patients on ventilators, up from 4.1 the week before.
As of Tuesday, 1,357 people in Delaware County have died from the virus, 825 of whom were long term care facility or nursing home residents.
The percent of people showing up at emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses remained the same at 0.9 percent.
