DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc. recently got a major donation from a Delaware County based group with an eye-catching name but altruistic mission.

Satanic Delco last week dropped off two vehicles worth of items for donation to the project.

The group, formed in February by Joseph Rose of Ridley, had slowly worked up to the donation and went for a push to collect more items in October.

"When we started earlier in the year, [donating to the Domestic Abuse Project] was the first thing we wanted to do," he told Patch.

But the coronavirus put that on hold.

"We recently made effort to say, 'let's get back to this,'" he said.

And on Friday, Nov. 6 Rose and another member of Satanic Delco packed their vehicles full of the items and dropped them off.

"We are really grateful for this incredible donations," said Smita Sanwardeker, Communications Director of the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County. "We did not expect for it to be so generous."

Rose didn't have an exact figure for how much money was spent on donations or how many items were donated, but said he thinks the total was around $2,800 worth of goods.

"It really was a great amount of stuff," Rose said. "We were very pleased with the outcome.

Items donated included hundreds of tampons, diapers, face masks, cotton swabs, and trash bags. Other items donated were batteries, snacks, bras and underwear, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products.

"This just more than we could have ever expected," Sanwardeker said.

She said the items will be available for clients who come to the project's office and snacks will be given to clients at the project's safe house.

Rose said the project's staffers were grateful for the donation, but they naturally asked questions about the group's name and mission.

"You're never quite sure how that first interaction will go," Rose said of meeting others while representing his group.

Sanwardeker admitted to assuming some things about the group but lauded the group for their efforts to give back to the community.

"They are a nice group of people."

Rose said Satanic Delco is working on establishing a scholarship for graduating students at Ridley High School.

The scholarship, called the Satanic Delco Outsider Achievement Award, ideally will give the awardee a $666 scholarship, he said.
