ASTON, PA — A Delaware County animal rescue organization recently got a boost of supplies thanks to a group of heathens.

Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue — a nonprofit 501c3 foster based, all-breed, no-kill animal rescue based in Aston — was the beneficiary of a charitable effort called "Heathens Helping Hounds."

The campaign was launched by Satanic Delco in spring this year.

Satanic Delco founder Joseph Rose said the campaign collected and delivered a significant stockpile of much-needed items to Rags 2 Riches Wednesday.

Rose said the items came by way of Amazon and direct donations.

"The underdog or outsider is what we are all about," Rags 2 Riches Director Tish Mayo said. "We promote positivity and kindness in a world full of hate."

This isn't the first time Satanic Delco has stepped up to assist those in need and Delaware County-based organizations.

The group, which is an independent Satanic congregation with no affiliation to any other Satanic groups, has previously donated about $2,800 worth of items to the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County and also spent a day handing out homelessness survival kits in Philadelphia in September.

It also launched the Outsider Achievement Award, which seeks to award $666 to Ridley High School students who embody the positive aspects of being an outsider.

For the unfamiliar, Satanic Delco is not actually a group of Satan's worshipers. In fact, they aren't religious in any way and don't believe in a heaven or a hell, Satan or God. Rather, they follow seven tenets commonly followed among larger groups of Satanists.

Those tenets are:

  1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
  3. One's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone.
  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
  5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
  6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
  7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
