The department awards the competitive grants to school districts and career and technical centers with eight or more approved career and technical education programs for them to update or purchase new equipment to train students.
"The equipment purchased with the help of this grant will benefit our entire region, since Delaware Technical High School consists of students from 15 local school districts," Delloso said. "Numerous reports have forecast a shortage of skilled workers in Pennsylvania in the years to come, so the need to educate, train and develop skilled workers who are prepared to enter the workforce has never been more important."

Under the program, the maximum grant is $50,000, and each grant must be matched dollar-for-dollar from a local source which could include local school funds or contributions from business and industry partners.
"Having the right equipment helps career and technical schools train students properly so they can hit the ground running as they enter the workforce," Krueger said. "I’m happy that Delaware County Technical High School will receive this funding, which is a great investment in our kids and our community."
Since Gov. Tom Wolf took office, the number of career and technical education students earning industry-recognized credentials has increased by 30.1 percent and the number of credentials earned by students enrolled in CTE programs has grown by 23.4 percent, according to a state news release.
"Delaware County Technical High School prepares students for some of the most high-demand jobs in Pennsylvania," O’Mara said. "In order for them to get the most out of their education and confidently enter the workforce, they need hands-on experience with the most modern tools in their trade. I’m proud to see this investment in Delaware County’s education system, job market and future."
