Delco Under Flash Flood Watch Through Friday

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for Delaware County and surrounding areas on Thursday morning, lasting into Friday.

Portions of southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware, northeast Maryland, southern New Jersey all remain under the flash flood watch through Thursday evening.

The NWS said slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the region today with locally heavy downpours. Rainfall amounts could be as high as 2 to 4 inches, falling in a short time span.

Authorities remind residents that the ground remains saturated from last week's storms and streams and creeks are presently running high. As a result, much of the area is more susceptible to flooding than usual.

Heavy rain will likely result in flooded roadways and areas of poor drainage, as well as small streams and creeks.

A Flash Flood Watch means that there is the potential for flash flooding which can be life-threatening. Heavy rain is expected to fall over a short period of time. Rapidly rising flood waters may quickly inundate roadways and areas of poor drainage. Streams and creeks could overflow their banks, flooding nearby properties.

The National Weather Service advises people monitor the forecast, especially if they live in a location that is prone to flooding. Be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area.
