Delco Voter Registration: See Which Party's Numbers Are Higher

One party has more than 47,000 more registered voters in Delaware County than the other, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Now that the deadline to register to vote in Pennsylvania has passed, which party has more registered voters in Delaware County?

While the GOP has seen an overall increase in registrations across the state, Delaware County is an exception.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, Democrats have more registered voters in the county than Republicans.

Data from Monday shows Democrats have 208,017 registered voters in the county. Republicans have 160,888, the data shows. That's a difference of 47,129.

Both figures have increased since the June primary.

At that time, Democrats had 197,210 registered voters and Republicans had 155,579.

The data also shows 3,411 Republicans and 2,722 voters with "other" affiliations have switched to Democrat registrations, whereas 1,483 Democrats and 817 "others" have shifted to Republican registration in 2020.

Additionally, 859 Democrats and 718 Republicans have changed their registration to "other."

Statewide, the GOP has 3,506,337 registered voters and Democrats have 4,207,190 registered voters.

But Delaware County, which saw a "blue wave" in 2018, does not appear to be wavering from the left, and if President Trump wins Pennsylvania in 2020, the GOP will likely be able to thank the dozens of rural counties in the central part of the state where Republicans gained thousands of voters in the last six months and Democrats, in some cases, came away with a net loss for 2020.

Statewide since June, Republicans registered 202,396 new voters, while Democrats registered just 114,497 in that same time frame. That's at least in part a result of the GOP's far more aggressive door to door and outreach campaign amid the pandemic, as Democrats did not begin knocking on doors until October.

However, that's not the full story. Republicans have been making gains in Pennsylvania since 2016. Democrats had around 900,000 more registered voters than Republicans heading into the 2016 election; that lead has been narrowed to around 700,000.

Of course, voter registrations are not a reliable indicator of exactly how an electorate will vote, as there are hundreds of thousands of undecided voters, independents, and voters who cross party lines on Election Day every year. Despite Pennsylvania having far more registered Democrats, President Trump still won the state by 44,000 votes over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
