Haverford Enacting Snow Emergency Wednesday Afternoon

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA – With another storm about to descend on the Philadelphia region Wednesday, Haverford Township announced it will enact a snow emergency as of Wednesday afternoon.

The township said the snow emergency status will go into effect at noon Wednesday, March 7. The status will be lifted at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 8 unless the township says otherwise.

Wednesday trash and recycling collections will not be affected, but Thursday's collections have been canceled. Normal Thursday collections will resume next week and Friday's collections will go on as planned.

All township buildings – including the library, Skatium, and CREC – will close at noon Wednesday and reopen Friday, March 9.

According to the township, in the snow emergency it is illegal for any person, firm, or corporation to:

• park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any Snow Emergency Route designated pursuant to this article; or

• drive any vehicle on any such Snow Emergency route unless that vehicle is equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable tract devices; or

• drive any vehicle which then becomes stuck on any snow emergency route during a snow emergency because of or related to the failure of that vehicle to be equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable traction devices.

With snow on the way, make sure you know Haverford's snow removal guidelines.

Residents should also avoid parking in cul-de-sacs, the township said. However, if they must park in a cul-de-sac or they must leave their vehicle on or near a highway, they must notify the police department by calling 911, according to the township.

After the storm ends, it will take the township approximately eight to 12 hours to complete the clean up, assuming normal conditions.

Residents are also reminded not to clear the end of their driveway until the storm has stopped and the road is plowed curb to curb, the township said.
