Haverford Extending Snow Emergency To Thursday Afternoon

The township said it is extending the status by several hours. With that, Thursday's trash and recycling collections have been canceled.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA – As the fourth nor'easter to hit the heater Philadelphia area continues through Wednesday, Haverford Township is extending its snow emergency status.

The township said it will lift the snow emergency at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 22. It was set to be lifted at 8 a.m. Thursday.

"The public works staff will need additional time to clear our 166 miles of roadways and provide safe travel for our community," thee township said.

With the status extended, Thursday’s trash and recycling collections have been canceled. Recycling will be collected on Monday, March 26, which will cancel yard waste collections on Monday

Friday's trash and recycling will be collected as normally scheduled.

All township buildings will remain closed until noon on Thursday.

According to the township, in the snow emergency it is illegal for any person, firm, or corporation to:

  • park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any Snow Emergency Route designated pursuant to this article; or
  • drive any vehicle on any such Snow Emergency route unless that vehicle is equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable tract devices; or
  • drive any vehicle which then becomes stuck on any snow emergency route during a snow emergency because of or related to the failure of that vehicle to be equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable traction devices.

With snow on the way, make sure you know Haverford's snow removal guidelines.

Residents should also avoid parking in cul-de-sacs, the township said. However, if they must park in a cul-de-sac or they must leave their vehicle on or near a highway, they must notify the police department by calling 911, according to the township.

After the storm ends, it will take the township approximately eight to 12 hours to complete the clean up, assuming normal conditions.

Residents are also reminded not to clear the end of their driveway until the storm has stopped and the road is plowed curb to curb, the township said.
