Haverford Teen's Cupcake Decorating Helps Food Pantry: Local Hero
Haverford eighth grader Ella Markland is using her cupcake decoration and teaching skills to help raise money for a Havertown food pantry.

HAVERFORD, PA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Heather Markland of Haverford who nominated her daughter Ella Markland. Ella is an eight grader who is using her cupcake decorating lessons to raise money for a local food pantry.

Hero's job: She is an eighth grade student.
Reason for recognition: Ella is teaching a virtual cupcake decorating class to a group of twelve Haverford children. Instead of charging a fee for the class, she asked for a donation to a local food bank. So far, Ella has collected $200 for the TLC Food Pantry in Havertown.
One thing to know: Ella has such a big heart and loves to help people. Prior to the pandemic, she volunteered at the TLC Food Pantry each month.
