Haverford Township Commissioner Andy Lewis Dies At 64

Fifth Ward Commissioner Andy Lewis died after a battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease​, a neurodegenerative disease.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — A member of Haverford Township's Board of Commissioners recently passed away following a battle with a neurodegenerative disease.

Andy Lewis died at 64 years old.

Lewis was the commissioner for Haverford Township's 5th Ward.

According to Lewis's commissioner Facebook page, he died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.

The post says Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is "a very rare and terrible neurodegenerative disease with no known cause, treatment, or cure."

"Andy was stricken in late March, so he was not ill for long," the post reads.

Details for a memorial for Lewis will be announced at a later date.

Lewis was elected in 2003 as the 5th Ward Commissioner and served in that capacity for four years. He was then elected in 2007 to Delaware County Council where he completed a four-year term but decided not to seek reelection.

He then ran for and won the 5th Ward Commissioner seat in 2015.

"The Township of Haverford and the Board of Commissioners join the entire community mourning the loss of Commissioner Andy Lewis," a statement from Haverford Township said. "We ask our residents to please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time. We wish comfort and peace and extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones."

The Delaware County GOP in a Facebook post thanked Lewis for his "commitment and dedication to public service in Delaware County and Haverford Township."

"May Andy Lewis rest in peace," the post said.
