Haverford Township Gets $1M For Intersection Realignment

The money will help fund the realignment of the intersection of Burmont and Glendale roads near Darby Creek and Darby Creek Valley Park.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Grant funding has been awarded to Haverford Township for intersection realignment, according to State Rep. Mike Zabel.

Zabel Friday announced $1 million in grant funds for the township through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

The money will help fund the realignment of the intersection of Burmont and Glendale roads near Darby Creek and Darby Creek Valley Park.

The project will include the improvement of a pedestrian crossing at the intersection as well as the extension of the pedestrian Darby Creek Trail by more than 1,000 feet.

“The planned extension of the Darby Creek Trail should not be overlooked as an important part of this project, improving the area’s outdoor recreational options," Zabel said.

The approved project is one of 43 announced throughout the state Friday to address improvements in highway, bridge, rail, pedestrian trails and bike trails.

PennDOT evaluated the applications and made selections based on criteria such as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.
