Havertown Sisters Use Hot Chocolate Stand For Good: Local Heroes

Caroline and Rian Dotsey have sold hot chocolate to raise funds for good causes around the holidays for several years.

HAVERTOWN, PA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Havertown's Sue Dotsey who nominated her daughters Caroline and Rian Dotsey. Caroline and Rian, who are student athletes, have been selling hot chocolate around the holidays to raise funds for various causes and groups.

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
Caroline and Rian Dotsey have organized and implemented an annual community service event they thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every year around the holiday season. The sister combo host a hot chocolate stand on Greenview Lane in front of our Havertown residence. Their successful and driven plan selling cups of hot chocolate with or without marshmallows to raise money and awareness for a particular cause has been a valuable and rewarding life lesson. Their dedication has contributed in changing lives around our nation and also in our backyard. In 2017 my daughters raised money and awareness for Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. In 2018 they focused and donated funds to the California Wildfires, and in 2019 my daughters raised money, assembled, and delivered care packages to the homeless on the streets of Philadelphia. During the 2020 quarantine period our family came together to give back to our city preparing and collecting sandwiches from families in our community to provide Saint John’s Hospice with donations needed in Philadelphia during the shut down. This holiday season we are looking forward to bring attention to the Covid 19 Relief Fund.
