Manoa Fire Company Gets $18K To Buy New Equipment

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Manoa Fire Company in Haverford Township is getting grant funding to help them purchase equipment to boost their emergency response effectiveness.

State Rep. Mike Zabel recently said the fire company was approved for an $18,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development.

The grant will be used to purchase stabilization struts, equipment used to help protect emergency responders and people trapped inside vehicles during life-saving work.

"The members of Manoa’s 100 percent-volunteer staff put their own lives on the line whenever the call arises to make sure the people in our community are safe, rescued and/or receive the help they need," Zabel said. "It’s rewarding to see the state step in to provide the money needed to upgrade the services and safety measures Manoa Fire Company needs to protect and serve our community."

The stabilization struts will be used following motor vehicle accidents involving larger vehicles such as buses, tractor trailers, delivery vehicles and trash trucks.

Stabilization struts help secure the damaged and potentially unstable vehicle to provide protection for rescue workers as well as the drivers and passengers trapped inside a vehicle following an accident.

Manoa Fire Company is one of five fire departments serving approximately 50,000 residents in Haverford Township.

The company provides fire suppression, rescue operations and emergency medical services.
