DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — "Saturday Night Live" has performed several sketches in recent years highlighting the quirky Delco accent.

And most recently, the show poked fun at the regional accent by way of a sketch about the HBO series "Mare of Easttown," which features a Delco-accented Kate Winslet as a detective solving a murder in suburban Philly.

The sketch titled "Murdur Durdur" featured Kate McKinnon, Bowen Yang, Beck Bennett and a few other cast members doing the Delco accent ... sort of.

Let's just say many liberties are taken with the regional way of speaking to boost its comedic effect, notably how they pronounce "daughter" — which sounds nothing like what we've heard in and around the region.

However, McKinnon and company do hit some of the subtleties of the accent to decent effect.

She pronounced "hoagie" just like she was in line at a Wawa in Clifton Heights.

And Wawa also got a shoutout during the sketch a week after Winslet's comments on Wawa seeming "mythical" to her went viral.

The sketch also threw out places such as Conshohocken, Hockessin and other suburban towns in a bit about odd-sounding and tough-to-spell locales.

And it wouldn't be complete without references to the beloved Gritty and Phanatic, who show up as "a Gritty" in the woods and as a character's grandfather, respectively.

Like we said, this isn't the first time SNL has used the Delco accent to comedic effect.

Tina Fey, who hails from Upper Darby, and Jimmy Fallon played Delco/Main Line mom types a few years back and employed the accent. (Fey nailed it, of course, but Fallon fell a bit flat.)

Later, James McAvoy, who hosted the show to promote Philly-area native M. Night Shyamalan's films "Split" and "Glass," put the accent on during a sketch in which he played an Eagles fan.

And then there was the Eagles-Patriots Super Bowl sketch in which Fey returns to play Revolution-era Philadelphians who trade jabs with Revolution-era Bostonians, all while each group lays their regional accents on very thick.
