Kate Winslet Reveals Wawa Order After Philly-Area Filming

Winslet, who stars in suburban Philly-set and shot "Mare of Easttown," said Wawa stores were "mythical."

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Wawa is a lot of things to a lot of people. But to Hollywood star Kate Winslet, it was "mythical."

Winslet has the lead role in HBO's "Mare of Easttown," which was shot in a vacant Kmart in Coatesville, Don's Deli in Boothwyn, Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia, Phoenixville, and of course Easttown.

The "Titanic" star has spoken about her efforts to nail the Delco accent when discussing the series, but she recently touched on the area's beloved convenience chain.

In speaking on the Los Angeles Times podcast "The Envelope," Winslet talked about Wawa with reverence.

"It almost felt like a mythical place … Wawa," she said on the show.

According to Winslet, she subscribed to the Delaware County Daily times and was often reading about Wawa in its articles.

"By the time I got there, I was like, ‘It’s real,'" she said on the podcast.

She called Wawa "the heart of Delco."

While Winslet typically just got coffee from Wawa, she said co-star Evan Peters was a fan of Wawa's famous "Gobbler" hoagie, which stuff all the foods of a Thanksgiving dinner into a hoagie roll.

And in speaking about the Gobbler, Winslet corrected herself after calling it a "sub" rather than a "hoagie," a sign she worked to not only master the Delco accent but also the regional lingo.

New episodes of "Mare of Easttown" premier at 10 p.m. on Sundays on HBO.
