Bryn Athyn College Celebrates Launch of M.S. in Special Education
The new Master of Science in Special Education, Literacy concentration was celebrated recently by the College community and its partners.

Monday, October 22 was exciting evening for Bryn Athyn College as they celebrated the official launch of the Master of Science in Special Education (MSSpEd), Literacy concentration program. Over 50 people were in attendance including leaders in the field of literacy. Patricia Roberts, executive director and CEO of AIM Academy, and Patricia Lazzaro of The Children’s Dyslexia Center, were among those present. Dr. Kelly Ballard, head of the graduate program, facilitated the night’s presentations, beginning with President Brian Blair’s vision of the program and its critical role in preparing teachers to meet the needs of struggling readers. Patricia Roberts highlighted the importance of the science of reading, while Dr. Ray Silverman, associate professor at BAC, and Dr. Wendy Closterman, dean of academics, illuminated the New Church philosophy of education that is woven throughout the program. They emphasized the spiritual nature of the work of the special educator and the responsibility to preserve the innocence of children.
