Suspects In Deadly Montco Home Invasion Head To Trial

LOWER MORELAND, PA -- Four suspects in a deadly home invasion in Montgomery County in September will head to trial in July, according to court documents.

Desmond O. Smith, 20, Naadir Abdul-Ali, 21, Abdurrahman Amin, 20, and Mujahid Mathews, 18, all of Philadelphia, are being charged with second-degree murder and related offenses, the Montgomery County District Attorney said.

All four pleaded innocent during an arriagnment on Tuesday.

They were ordered to stand trial beginning July 5 at 9:15 a.m. before Judge Thomas P. Rodgers, documents state.

The group was allegedly involved with the death of Kevin Brown, 53, who was killed in his home on 2388 Philmont Avenue in the Huntingdon Valley section of Lower Moreland Township on September 27.

Officers arriving on the scene at about 11:10 p.m. found Brown lying on the lawn of his residence. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the neck.

It’s unclear which of the four pulled the trigger. Abdul-Ali and Smith, however, are both being charged with weapons offenses, court documents state.

Brown’s daughter had previously been in a relationship with Abdul-Ali, and described him as possessive and violent, the Bucks County Courier Times reports. After Smith and Abdul-Ali allegedly assaulted her at gunpoint in August, Abdul-Ali told her that he would have Smith kill her and her family if she told anyone about what had happened.
