Arrowhead Students Get a Virtual Visit For Fire Prevention Week

Tango the Fire Safety Dog and Firefighter Dayna Hilton Skype with ArrowHead Elementary School students.

According to a Methacton School District press release, Firefighter Dayna Hilton, award-winning author of “Sparkles, the Fire Safety Dog,” along with Tango, a fire safety-savvy Dalmatian dressed in his red service vest, used Skype, a free online video-conferencing tool, to interact with Arrowhead Elementary Students right in their classrooms on Oct. 10. Hilton and Tango visited classrooms all over the country to help keep children and their families fire safe, in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week.

Hilton’s interactive Skype classes taught Arrowhead Elementary kids to recognize the firefighter as a helper and a friend, know the sound and purpose of a smoke alarm, learn how to crawl low under smoke and understand the importance of practicing a home fire drill using an escape map.

During Hilton and Tango’s virtual visit, students were read one of Hilton’s children’s fire safety books, sang fire safety songs and were sworn in as Junior Firefighters.
