COVID Labor Shortages Impacting Trash Pickup In Lower Providence
Describing the employee shortage as "severe," J.P. Mascaro warned residents that their collections schedule would continued to be impacted.
LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — The impacts of the pandemic continue to make themselves felt, even as cases largely disappear and the vaccination rate skyrockets across Montgomery County and the rest of Pennsylvania.
One of the chief examples of this is labor shortages, which have struck the restaurant, bar, and hotel industries hard in Montgomery County. Another, it seems, is trash collection.
In Lower Providence Township, J.P. Mascaro issued a letter to residents this week warning of a potential continued impact on services as they deal with a "severe" shortage of employees.

The letter encourages residents to leave trash out for a second day after their originally scheduled trash day, if crews fail to pick up trash on the scheduled day. The same goes for recycling. Yard waste will be picked up by the end of the week, if not immediately taken.
The company says they're working hard to expand their labor force.

"You can be assured that these challenges are not the result of a lack of commitment on our part, as we continue to devote substantial time, energy, and financial resources on a daily basis to minimize and eventually eliminate these challenges," the company wrote in the letter.
