LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Banners are now up around Lower Providence Township honoring military veterans who dedicated themselves to service of their nation.

It's part of the Hometown Heroes program, an initiative copied by many other municipalities around the region.

Banners are currently displayed throughout the Eagleville Park township complex. The first banner was placed this week over the Township Veteran's Memorial.

"To qualify, a service member or veteran, living or deceased, must have had a connection to Lower Providence Township (relative, friends, attended local schools, etc.) at some point in his or her life," township officials said. "He or she could also have been honored on Lower Providence War Memorials or be a veteran recommended by local VFW and American Legion Posts."

Residents can participate by nominating a hero for inclusion. Submit the Hometown Hero Form, along with a photo and $130 payment via email to Anne Henning Scheuring at heroes@verizon.net.
